Daikin Air Conditioning: A Homeowner's Guide
Daikin is a global leader in air conditioning and one of the most commonly specified brands for domestic installations in the UK. Here's what to know before buying.
Daikin is a Japanese manufacturer and one of the world's largest air conditioning companies by volume. In the UK domestic market, they are particularly well-known for their efficiency and the breadth of their product range — from compact bedroom units to high-capacity systems for large spaces.
The main domestic product ranges
FTXM Series (Perfera)
The FTXM 'Perfera' is Daikin's flagship wall-mounted domestic range, and one of the most efficient domestic heat pump systems available. Available from 2.0kW to 7.1kW, it features 2-area intelligent eye occupancy sensing, excellent part-load efficiency and Daikin's streamer discharge air purification technology.
FTXC Series (Sensira)
The FTXC 'Sensira' is Daikin's entry-level domestic range, offering the core functionality and reliability expected of the brand at a more accessible price point. A solid workhorse specification for rooms where premium features are less of a priority.
FTXA Series (Emura)
The FTXA 'Emura' is Daikin's premium design-focused indoor unit, recognised by its award-winning curved form. Available in white and silver, it is often specified in high-specification interiors where the appearance of the indoor unit matters.
Multi-split outdoor units
Daikin's MXM series multi-split outdoor units cover 2–5 indoor units. Daikin multi-split systems are well-regarded for allowing mixed capacities — different-sized indoor units on the same outdoor unit — which provides design flexibility in multi-room installations.
Daikin's efficiency credentials
Daikin was among the early developers of inverter technology in air conditioning and continues to be an innovator in efficiency. The FTXM Perfera range achieves some of the highest seasonal efficiency ratings (SCOP) available in domestic wall-mounted products, which translates to lower running costs over the system's lifetime.
Warranty and service
Daikin offers a standard 3-year parts warranty on domestic products, with extended terms available through their Daikin Comfort Promise programme when installed by a D1 or D2 registered installer. Registration within the required period is essential — this is something a professional installer handles as part of the commissioning process.
For loft conversions, conservatories and other high-heat-gain spaces, Daikin's FTXM Perfera range is often the preferred specification due to its ability to maintain output at higher ambient temperatures compared to less sophisticated products.
