Air Conditioning for Cafés

A café's commercial success depends on dwell time — how long customers stay, how much they consume, and whether they come back. An uncomfortable café drives customers out; a well-cooled, welcoming space encourages longer visits and repeat business. Coffee machines, steaming equipment and high occupancy make cafés surprisingly warm, and air conditioning is the reliable solution.

Key considerations for air conditioning for cafés

Coffee machine heat output

Commercial espresso machines generate substantial heat — a three-group machine can output 2–3kW continuously. This significantly increases the required system capacity and must be calculated at survey.

Customer dwell time optimisation

The goal is a comfortable temperature that encourages customers to stay — typically 20–22°C. Too cold and the environment feels unwelcoming; too warm and customers leave earlier.

Humidity from steaming

Milk steaming and hot water equipment produce localised humidity. Air conditioning dehumidifies as it cools, preventing a clammy atmosphere.

Small space acoustics

Cafés are often compact spaces where noise carries. Modern inverter systems on low output are effectively silent — important in a conversational café environment.

Why air conditioning works here

  • Comfortable environment that keeps customers staying longer
  • Manages coffee machine and equipment heat effectively
  • Dehumidifies — no clammy atmosphere on humid days
  • Heating in winter — replace inefficient gas or electric heaters
  • Year-round operation from a single system
  • Enhanced filtration for coffee aroma management

System type

Most cafés are served by a single or paired wall-mounted or ceiling cassette system. The coffee machine heat load must be included in the calculation — cafés need more capacity than their floor area alone suggests.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my café so hot even in mild weather?

Coffee machines, ovens, hot holding equipment and high occupancy in a typically small, well-insulated space combine to push temperatures well above ambient. A properly sized system can maintain comfortable temperatures even on busy trading days.

Will the unit noise disturb café conversations?

Modern inverter systems at low output are effectively inaudible in a normal café environment with background noise. We confirm noise ratings for every specification.

Can you install without closing for trading?

We aim to schedule café installations outside trading hours — early mornings or evenings. For smaller installations, same-day completion is usually achievable.
